Last Saturday I worked the Bristol Galleries Waterstones event with Children’s author Harriet Muncaster discussing her new book Victoria Stitch: Dark and Sparkling. Muncaster’s aesthetic definitely matches her work – the sparkling covers of her Isadora Moon and Emerald books were matched by her bright pink hair adorned by a sparkly, starry headband, star earrings and abundant jewelled necklace. It was a truly brilliant morning, where Muncaster told us about Victoria Stitch’s Wiskling world and even gave drawing tutorials.

Muncaster started by telling us all about Victoria Stich, who is finally Queen of Wiskling Wood. We quickly learnt of the author’s obsession with all things tiny, with Muncaster showing off an array of tiny Wiskling objects, including a pair of Victoria Stitch’s boots – really in keeping with this year’s Autumn trends. Muncaster even had a whole model of Victoria Stitch and her sister Celestine’s bedrooms, giving us an insight into the lives of two sisters who are complete opposites. Following the marvellous spectacle of all things Wiskling, Muncaster treated us to lessons on how to draw Draglets and Wisklings.

When the audience were invited for questions, the array of children on half term did not disappoint. We had a series of very important questions, including how many books Muncaster has written, and we even learnt that her favourite book is The Borrowers by Mary Norton – particularly on brand considering her obsession with all things tiny!

It was a pleasure to work such a joyful event. My highlights include all of the children’s fabulous witchy costumes and their excitement to show Muncaster their drawings.
